Hidden Insecurities
This sculptural book is a personal reflection on the ways in which visual culture impacts perceptions of beauty and self-identity. The choice of jewelry box implies the preciousness of this experience of the long-term influence it can have into adulthood and the invisible and hidden nature of insecurities. Handmade paper is used to symbolize both the skin of the body and the absorption by the subconscious mind, which is pierced and pieced together with thread in the outlined shape of a girl, echoing the lasting manipulation of words and image.
