of ma’at: women in egypt
Profound knowledge of female role models, especially in the history of Egypt can improve today’s gender role in Egypt and Middle Eastern countries. (Khalil, Moustafa, Moftah, and Karim 2017)
Of Ma’at presents portraits of contemporary Egyptian women alongside representations of women from antiquity, creating a framework through which to examine the continuity and transformation of women’s identities and cultural roles across historical periods. In doing so, the work challenges persistent misrepresentations of Arab women in Western popular culture, media discourse, and historical narratives, offering a more nuanced and historically grounded perspective.
